Burn Accidents

Burns are often lifelong, debilitating injuries. Burns may affect every aspect of an individual’s life, causing both physical pain and emotional distress.

When a reckless driver causes a motor vehicle accident, the victim of the crash may be entitled to monetary damages. For example, if you were burned because your vehicle caught fire during a car crash, the at-fault driver may be held responsible for paying your medical bills and other expenses. At Price Law Firm, we aggressively pursue all avenues of recovery to ensure you receive the compensation you deserve.

Types of burn injuries

There are three types of burn injuries: first-degree, second-degree, and third-degree.

  • First-degree burns are generally mild. An individual with a first-degree burn will have redness on the skin. The individual may also experience some pain.
  • Second-degree burns are more severe. Both the outer and lower layers of skin are damaged. The individual will experience pain, and the skin will appear red, blistered, and swollen.
  • Third-degree burns are the most severe. These burns cause deep damage that goes all the way to the lowest layers of the skin. Individuals will experience extreme pain and numbness. The skin will look black or white from being charred.

When compared to other types of injuries, burns often result in some of the most serious and extended periods of pain. They often cause permanent injuries or disfigurement. Some victims may even need to have limbs amputated. Driving and working may no longer be possible, and the victim may need round-the-clock care from medical professionals.

Common causes of burn injuries

Burn injuries impact thousands of motor vehicle accident victims every year. Common causes of burn injuries often include:

  • Fire
  • Radiation
  • Chemicals
  • Hot metal or glass
  • Hot liquid
  • Steam
  • Electrical burns

In some car accidents, burns may have more than one cause.

Do you need a lawyer for your burn injury claim?

If you were burned in a car accident, you may be wondering if you need to hire an attorney. You may have been contacted by the at fault driver’s insurance company with an offer to settle the case. However, the goal of an insurance company is to settle claims for as little money as they can. Without an attorney, you may accept a settlement offer that is far too low. Burn victims often need surgeries and other medical care months or even years after their accidents. However, the insurance company may not offer any compensation for your future medical expenses. With the assistance of an attorney, you will ensure that your current and future interests are protected.
